Crochet is my first yarny love. It’s the first fibre art I learned and I still have a special place for it in my heart. However, before I knew how to knit, I would often wish there was a way to create knitted looking fabric with a crochet hook. Little did I know, there is! The fabric is a lot thicker and sturdier but looks very similar. For a lighter fabric use a bigger hook or a lighter weight yarn. Trial and error is always the way to get the results you want and to learn something new. There’s no shame in the frogging game!
From the left: faux garter stitch, stockinette, and reverse stockinette.
Garter stitch: ch any number of stitches
Repeat 2-3 until you reach the desired length.
Stockinette stitch: same as garter but only sl st into the back loops every row.
Reverse stockinette stitch: only sl st into the from loop every row.
Simple as that! But just I case you’d like to see how it’s done. Here is a quick video.
