Stitch Tuesday – reading charts

Charts are great for both crocheting and knitting. They provide clarity. There can’t be any confusion due to wording and explanations. They are also great for visualizing what the pattern looks like before you begin. I often find myself in a rabbit hole of patterns and charts on Pinterest. The problem is, half of them are drawn differently from what I’m used to. Luckily I know Russian and can read instructions, but if you don’t have such a skill it can be a big obstacle. No worries! I drew out some of the most common symbols next to US symbols. I hope this helps and you can make something you thought you couldn’t.

From left to right: abbreviation, US symbols, Russian/EU symbols.

If you have specific ones you’d like me to translate, let me know. I’ll be happy to help!
