A fast-growing succulent that constantly produces tiny plantlets along the edges of its leaves — one plant becomes hundreds, and it blooms pink-red bell-shaped flowers in spring.

The Mother of Thousands (Kalanchoe x houghtonii) is a hybrid of Kalanchoe daigremontiana and Kalanchoe delagoensis, identifiable by its V-shaped leaves edged with tiny miniature plantlets. Every plantlet that falls into soil can birth an entirely new plant. Native to Madagascar, it's adapted to harsh conditions and stores water in its leaves — making it drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and a perfect choice for busy plant parents. Spring brings pink-red-orange bell-shaped flowers. Available in 2" or 4" nursery pot or Wanda Ceramic Planter (3").

What I love about it

The Mother of Thousands is the plant that keeps on giving. The tiny plantlets that line the edges of every leaf are genuinely fascinating — they look like botanical jewelry, and each one is a fully viable new plant waiting to happen. It's fast-growing, drought-tolerant, and the spring flowers — pink, red, and orange bell shapes — are a seasonal bonus that makes the whole plant feel like a gift. A genuine conversation piece and a generous plant to share with friends.
