The Nepenthes Sanguinea is the pitcher plant that makes people stop and stare. Long, elegant tendrils end in deep, tubular pitchers — flushed red-green and filled with digestive fluid that actually traps and dissolves insects. It's a living trap, a conversation piece, and one of the most fascinating plants you can own. Native to Southeast Asia, it's been doing this for millions of years and it's very good at it.
What I love about it:
- Light: Bright indirect light — fluorescent grow lights work great indoors
- Water: Keep the sphagnum moss consistently moist; use only distilled or rainwater — tap water minerals will damage it
- Humidity: Loves high humidity — thrives in a terrarium or humid room
- Feeding: No fertilizer needed — it catches its own insects; keep pitchers 50% full of water
- Dormancy: Requires a cool winter rest (Nov–Feb) — may slow down but will bounce back in spring
- Potting: Sphagnum moss only — never regular potting soil, which is too nutrient-rich
- Difficulty: Intermediate — specific water and humidity needs, but endlessly rewarding
A plant that hunts. The Nepenthes Sanguinea is nature's most dramatic houseplant — and it earns every bit of the attention it gets. Bloom bold. Be cheeky.
