Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)
A fast-growing, incredibly hardy houseplant that produces charming "pup" offshoots on long curling stems — air-purifying, beginner-friendly, and one of the easiest plants to propagate.
The Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is native to the tropical rainforests of South America and thrives in loam-based soil with bright indirect sunlight. It grows up to 20" tall and produces small spider-like "pups" that hang off long curled stems — perfect for placing on a shelf or in a hanging basket. The pups can be easily rooted to grow new plants. Air-purifying and non-toxic. Available in 2", 4", or 6" nursery pot, Olympia Planter, Selene Planter (6.5"), or 8" hanging planter.
What I love about it
The Spider Plant is the plant that keeps on giving. The variegated foliage is striking — green and white striped leaves with a graceful arching habit — and the "pups" that dangle from long curling stems are genuinely charming. Each pup is a new plant waiting to happen: push it into soil while still attached, or separate and pot it independently. It releases oxygen, filters toxins, and is completely safe for cats and dogs. One of the best starter plants and one of the most generous propagators in the plant world.
