Blue Chalksticks is one of those succulents that stops people mid-scroll. The leaves are smooth, cylindrical, and a distinctive powdery blue-green — like someone dusted them with chalk. They grow in dense, spreading clusters that trail beautifully over the edges of planters or cascade down a shelf. Native to South Africa, it's built for drought, full sun, and being largely ignored.
What I love about it:
- Light: Full sun to bright indirect — more sun intensifies the blue color
- Water: Every 2–3 weeks; let soil dry out completely between waterings
- Soil: Well-draining cactus or succulent mix only
- Growth habit: Spreading and trailing — up to 12" tall and 2–3 feet wide; great for cascading over planters
- Blooms: Small white flowers in summer
- Pet safety: Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested — keep out of reach
- Difficulty: Easy — drought-tolerant and thrives on neglect
Bloom bold. Be cheeky.
